An inflatable handheld wing for foil surfing
In 2005-2006, Benjamin Van Geem collaborated on Kitewing's Wave Warrior 7.5. When Duotone and F-One introduced similar concepts for foil surfing in 2018, he began developing his own design, incorporating insights that had been overlooked in the evolution of handheld wings.
History.
Benjamin's involvement with Kitewing's Wave Warrior 7.5 in 2005-2006 laid the groundwork. The resurgence of handheld wings by Duotone and F-One in 2018 inspired him to revisit and enhance previous designs, integrating forgotten insights.
Approach.
In 2006, Benjamin experimented with various concepts to achieve water flight using a handheld wing without masts or lines. Leveraging new technologies and materials, he revisited past ideas, leading to a stable foil wing characterized by its unique boom, handle, and shape.

From A-Z
We managed this project comprehensively—from identifying opportunities to transforming insights into strategic design and branding. The process encompassed ideation, detailed design, and overseeing test series production with a leading kite manufacturer in China.
Results.
We tested prototypes and small production runs extensively with Benjamin and professional riders. This led to a strong and well-performing wing design. A well-known kite brand later acquired our design and expertise, right as the market for wings started booming in the early 2020s.
